Another great year for FCCLA

Ms. Halfman offers sage advice to Abby Kerling
By Julie Waner
The FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) is back and ready for action this year. After their ice cream social last Thursday, September 17, the group is excited for the coming year.
FCCLA had, in the words of executive board member, Maria Chickering, “fizzled a bit” while Ms. Ferrel left to adopt and care for her first child. She is currently on maternity leave again with her second child, but Ms. Halfman has fortunately stepped in to co-advise.
The exectutive board members include Danielle Phillips, Maria Chickering, Maria Biddick, and Margo Hodge. They organize a service project for their members to do each month to help the community. Upcoming events include a trick-or-treat night for grade-schoolers during October, baking for Grand Haven residents in November, and holding a Christmas party for kids in December.
FCCLA’s mission statement is “to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education.” Joining the FCCLA will not only foster self-improvement, but also help the community at large—and don’t forget the benefit of extracurricular activities on college applications and scholarship forms. Any student interested in FCCLA should come out for the next Advisory meeting. Listen to the announcements for more details or contact Ms. Halfman.
