Heartbreak for Lancers

Lanceman says, "show your muscle to Bettendorf."
By Grayson Schmidt
Anyone who plays sports knows about the heartbreak after a loss. The Lancers experienced this first hand last Friday night in their 14-17 loss to the Pleasant Valley Spartans. This was one of 3 games last Friday between MAC teams with records of 2-1 or better. Clinton defeated Bettendorf 28-10, and Assumption beat Davenport Central 35-21.
The Spartans marched down to the field and scored on the opening drive of the game, making the score 7-0. North Scott scored twice in the first half, making the match 14-7 at halftime.
Therein ends Lancer scoring for the rest of the game.
The only points made in second half were a 35-yard field goal by Pleasant Valley Senior Alex Garbin and a 12-yard touchdown run by running back Maurice Terrell. With less than 3 minutes to go in the game, the Lancers took over the offense and marched down to the 28-yard line only to receive an illegal procedure penalty on 3rd-and-1, followed by a dropped pass. Finally, on 4th down, Cody Manthe was hit as he threw and the pass fell incomplete.
Spartan victory was brutal on the Lancers, but hope to rebound with a victory over Bettendorf this week, despite the fact that it’s their homecoming game. Infuriated by our loss to PV, and enraged by their loss to Clinton, Friday makes for quite the showdown, as two angry teams will collide.
